Johnston County Public Schools issued the following announcement on Feb. 9.

At their Feb. 8 Regular Session Meeting, the Johnston County Board of Education voted to transition to optional face coverings for all students, staff, and guests beginning Feb. 21.

Face coverings will remain required for all students, staff, and guests at all Johnston County Public Schools schools and campuses until Feb. 18.

The Board made the vote to transition to optional masking with the following addendums:

    1. The district will monitor the “percent excluded” by COVID-19 at each campus or school and provide a daily report on the district’s COVID-19 dashboard on where each school stands.

    2. If a school or campus rises above 4% percent excluded, that campus will then be required to shift to required masks for the next 10 days.

    3. On day 10 at 5:00pm, the percent excluded will again be assessed and it will be determined whether or not the campus can return to optional face coverings.

The school district will provide full details on how the change impacts students, staff, and their families in the coming days.

Families and staff will be notified on Feb. 18 if their respective school or campus will be in an optional or required face covering setting.
