JOHNSTON COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS: Hiring For Learning Facilitator Positions

Johnston County Public Schools issued the following announcement on July 12.

We have an exciting new opportunity for our teachers to grow as leaders and make an impact on other classrooms! 

We're currently seeking applicants for our Learning Facilitator positions. 

POSITION:  Learning Facilitator (Time Limited through 2023-2024 School Year) 

LOCATION:  Curriculum, Instruction and Accountability

                    (Schools TBD) 

SALARY:  Teacher Salary Schedule  

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:  10 Months  

REPORTS TO:   Curriculum Directors  

POSITION SUMMARY:  The Learning Facilitator works closely with the principals, teachers and other school based and district staff  to improve the academic achievement of all students by providing direct support for classroom teachers. Specifically the Learning Facilitator provides professional development sessions, co-teaching and lesson modeling, non-evaluative classroom observation and co-observation for the purpose of providing feedback directly to teachers. The position requires proven excellence as a classroom teacher and extensive knowledge of high yield, research-based teaching and learning strategies. The Learning Facilitator must also possess or be willing to develop a thorough understanding of all district approved and adopted curriculum resources and assessment systems.  The Learning Facilitator should have exemplary skills, experience and knowledge of  implementing and assessing the effectiveness of classroom instruction to improve overall student achievement in core content areas, problem solving skills, and the ability to use and facilitate the use of modern technology. Learning Facilitators are CIA employees but are assigned and housed in a minimum of two JCPS elementary schools where they spend the majority of their time.  

This position is a two year position. After two years classroom instructional facilitators are expected to return to the traditional classroom for a minimum of two years before being eligible to return to this position. 

 QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • Must hold a NC Educator's Continuing License.
  • Master's degree in educational field preferred.
  • Three or more years of teaching experience, preferably at the elementary level.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, problem solving, and organizational skills required to effectively facilitate professional development.
  • Skills in collecting, analyzing, and using assessment data to inform instructional planning.
  • Ability to collaboratively design high quality training for teachers and school staff.
  • Knowledge of North Carolina Standard Course of Study.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time and resources to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Capacity to work as part of a team; leading, delegating and organizing tasks planning and managing multiple projects.
 RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES: 

  • Ensures teachers and principals are familiar with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study, state support documents, and remain up to date on any modifications. 
  • Work cooperatively with teachers, CIA staff, school improvement teams and building level administrators in the development and delivery of instructional programs in the various content areas.
  • Maintain a current understanding (theory and application) of research based best instructional practices including supplementary materials and instructional technology.
  • Model instructional best practices with students for the purpose of teacher observing effectiveness and program improvement in the assigned content area.
  • Develops and models lessons for teachers in order to exhibit district preferred instructional strategies.  
  • Leads and supports professional development for teachers on various topics.
  • Makes regular classroom visits to support instructional improvement for teachers at the direction of the principal or upon request by teachers.
  • Collaborates with teachers on program improvement and instructional interventions for students who are at-risk of not meeting federal, state, or district performance standards.
  • Guides and supports teachers in the use of student performance data (including subject achievement data) to improve instructional effectiveness and student achievement. 
  • Serves as a coach working with instructional staff to improve their practice.
  • Supports and acts as a resource for grade level leaders as they facilitate effective PLCs.
  • Coordinates with other departments, offices, and organizations to best serve student needs.
  • Work with teachers to effectively use formative district benchmark assessments to guide classroom instructional interventions based on data analysis.
  • Participates in regular professional development to improve knowledge and skills.
  • Disseminate information regarding current research and significant developments on the state and national levels in areas assigned.
  • Regularly attends professional learning community meetings to support and facilitate instructional planning at assigned schools.
  • Observe classroom instruction and provide feedback and assistance to classroom teachers to facilitate improvement.  
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess a valid North Carolina driver's license.
