Alexandra Ennis named Certified Employee of the Month for March by Johnston County Schools

Johnston County Schools announced on Mar. 16 that Alexandra Ennis has been selected as the Certified Employee of the Month for March.

The recognition highlights Ennis’s dedication to education and her contributions at Powhatan Elementary, where she has worked for 13 years. She began as a classroom teacher before moving into her current role as media specialist after earning a master’s degree in library science. The award underscores the district’s commitment to recognizing educators who make a positive impact on students and their communities.

Ennis said, “I am a proud product of Johnston County Public Schools. Throughout my K–12 education, I was fortunate to learn from educators who genuinely cared about their students.” She added that these experiences inspired her to pursue teaching so she could have a similar influence on future generations. Reflecting on her career, Ennis said, “Education constantly evolves, and I have learned the importance of being flexible and open to change.” She also emphasized building strong relationships with students: “Taking the time to truly get to know students is the foundation of how I build strong relationships with them.”

Ennis described memorable moments such as seeing former students return during senior graduation walks: “Seeing these students walk the halls with pride and a sense of optimism for their future fills my heart with joy.” Looking ahead, she expressed interest in becoming a National Board Certified Teacher and continuing professional growth: “Achieving National Board Certification would allow me to continue growing professionally while strengthening my ability to support and impact staff, students, and my community.”
