The Town of Clayton announced on Apr. 10 that Lauren Box has been hired as its new Parks and Recreation Assistant Director, bringing over 15 years of experience in public service and program management. Box began her role with the town at the start of April.

Box previously worked as Recreation Superintendent for the City of San Jose, California, where she led youth and senior programs and expanded services for individuals living with disabilities. In that position, she managed staff, budgets, and collaborated with partners to enhance citywide offerings.

In her new role in Clayton, Box will support both daily operations and long-term planning within the department. She will assist the Parks and Recreation Director while overseeing maintenance, recreation, and athletic services. Her responsibilities also include working alongside staff to maintain community spaces and deliver programs designed to bring residents together.

Box’s background includes leading large teams, managing grant-funded initiatives, and using data along with community feedback to improve services. “I was drawn to Clayton because of its focus on community and the chance to be part of what comes next,” said Box. “I look forward to building relationships and understanding what matters most to residents. That insight helps shape programs that feel welcoming, useful, and worth coming back to.”

Parks and Recreation Director Todd Riddick said Box joins during a period when Clayton is implementing its Parks and Recreation Master Plan with an emphasis on maintaining quality spaces for residents. “Clayton is evolving, and it is important that we respond in a thoughtful way,” said Riddick. “Lauren’s experience aligns with our focus on strong programs and well-maintained spaces. She understands how to support staff while keeping services consistent and responsive to the community.”
