On May 16, 2023, U.S. Congressman Wiley Nickel (NC-13) issued the following statement after the North Carolina State Legislature voted to override Governor Cooper’s veto of a 12-week abortion ban, which now goes into law:
“This consequential decision goes against the mainstream opinion of North Carolinians who believe that women should be able to make their own health care decisions free from political interference,” said Congressman Wiley Nickel. “In Congress, I’ll continue to fight for reproductive freedom and work to codify the protections of Roe v. Wade into law.”
