U.S. Congressman Wiley Nickel (NC-13) traveled to Israel with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Leader Emeritus Steny Hoyer, and a congressional delegation of House Democrats.

Over the course of a week, Congressman Nickel met with key leaders and officials, including President Isaac Herzog, Prime Minister Netanyahu, Foreign Minister Lapid, and Palestinian Prime Minister Shtayyeh. The delegation also visited strategic and historical sites such as the Iron Dome defense system, which protects Israeli civilians from rocket attacks, and the Golan Heights, a vital strategic plateau in the north of the country.

The trip was sponsored and paid for by the American Israel Educational Foundation (AIEF), which is privately funded and allows Members of Congress to learn more about the U.S. – Israel relationship without using taxpayer dollars.

“I’m grateful to House Minority Leader Jeffries, Leader Emeritus Steny Hoyer, the American Israel Educational Foundation, and the House Democratic Caucus for the opportunity to travel to Israel for the first time,” said Congressman Wiley Nickel. “This congressional delegation trip was an eye-opening experience that allowed me to gain valuable insight and learn more about what is happening on the ground. From understanding the vital security measures like the Iron Dome to reflecting on the solemn history at Yad Vashem, this trip has deepened my appreciation for the strategic and special relationship between the U.S. and Israel. I look forward to building off this trip and continuing to advocate for a strong U.S. – Israel relationship.”
