0Comments

County of Johnston issued the following announcement on Mar. 8.

The Johnston County Emergency Rental and Utility Assistance Program will no longer be taking new applications after this Friday, March 11 at 5:00 p.m. The County is projected to distribute nearly $11 million in financial aid to residents who were behind on rent or utility payments because of economic factors caused by COVID-19. The program started last June through funding made available from federal economic recovery legislation. Since its inception, the program has helped more than 1,800 Johnston County residents avoid eviction.

Visit https://www.rentrelief.com/johnstoncounty/ to learn more about the program or call 844-243-7081 before this Friday, March 11. Residents who have applied for rent or utility assistance in the past and have new, outstanding bills may be eligible to reapply.

Individuals that need mortgage assistance can complete a paper application with the Department of Social Services. Funds for mortgage assistance are available through a Community Development Block Grant, but are limited and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. The Department of Social Services is located at 714 N. Street, Smithfield, N.C. 27577. Email dssassistance@johnstonnc.com for more information.
