County of Johnston issued the following announcement on Jan. 3.

Local media and members of the press are invited to attend the inaugural Johnston County State of Aviation Press Conference to be held at the Johnston County Regional Airport, located at 3149 Swift Creek Road, Smithfield, N.C. 27577. The event will take place on January 9, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. and shuttles will be provided to transport media members to a private hangar where the event will take place.

The press conference will cover data being released by NCDOT’s Aviation Division on January 6, which will highlight economic impacts of the state’s public airports and the related aviation and aerospace assets that support North Carolina’s aviation economy. Local elected officials speaking at the event will include: Johnston County Board of Commissioners Chairman, Butch Lawter, North Carolina State Representative Larry Strickland, North Carolina State Representative Donna White, and North Carolina Senator- elect Benton Sawrey.
