County of Johnston issued the following announcement on Mar. 28.

The Johnston County Public Health Department will begin offering second booster doses of COVID-19 vaccines on Monday, April 4, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. on a walk-in basis.

Earlier this week, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommended allowing certain immunocompromised individuals and individuals over the age of 50 to be eligible for another mRNA booster to increase protection against severe disease from COVID-19. The second booster dose is offered four months after the initial booster dose, based on personal risk assessment.

In addition, based on newly published data from the CDC, adults who received a primary vaccine and booster dose of Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen COVID-19 vaccine at least four months ago, may now receive a second booster dose using an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine.

The Health Department will continue to offer COVID vaccines weekly, Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. and on Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m. COVID vaccines are free regardless of health insurance or immigration status. Individuals are still required to wear a mask when visiting the Health Department and are encouraged to bring their vaccination card.
