A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Johnston County Election Department on October 30, 2024. The request pertains to obtaining a comprehensive report on the pre-election testing of voting machines.

We at Johnston Reporter, a media organization dedicated to providing accurate and in-depth coverage of local governmental affairs, made this request under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1. We specifically asked for the report in an electronic format, preferably PDF.

The information we sought includes the date of testing, the manufacturer of each machine, model numbers, and their respective status – whether they passed or failed during testing.

As journalists committed to transparency and accountability in public institutions, access to such records is vital for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We believe that sharing this information with the public will contribute significantly towards maintaining trust in our electoral processes.

In light of our role in gathering and disseminating news to the public, we have requested a fee waiver as a media professional while accessing these public records.

We eagerly await a response from the Johnston County Election Department regarding our request and look forward to sharing this important information with our readership soon.
