The Johnston County Board of Education has appointed Dr. David Pearce as the new Superintendent of Johnston County Public Schools. The decision was made during a special session on June 17, 2025, and Dr. Pearce will assume his new role on July 1, 2025.

Dr. Pearce brings over two decades of experience in education to his new position. He has previously served in various roles within the district, including Area Assistant Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent for Administrative and Auxiliary Services. His extensive background also includes time spent as a teacher, coach, and school-based administrator.

“Dr. Pearce is a product of Johnston County Public Schools and has more recently displayed strong leadership skills, exceptional problem-solving skills, and demonstrated a future-focused approach to the current situations facing public schools,” said Lyn Andrews, Chair of the Johnston County Board of Education. “He has a clear understanding of the needs of our students and staff, and the demands placed on our public schools.”

Throughout his career, Dr. Pearce has received several accolades such as the Johnston County Public Schools Leading with the Heart Award and recognition from organizations like The North Carolina Alliance for Athletics, Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (NCAAHPERD).

Expressing gratitude for his appointment, Dr. Pearce stated: “It is a true honor to serve the community that has given me so much. This school district and community have been my foundation since kindergarten.” He emphasized his commitment to being “approachable, open, and transparent” with all stakeholders.

Dr. Pearce aims to continue advancing educational excellence in Johnston County by focusing intently on student achievement. “We’ve made tremendous strides in academic achievement,” he noted, expressing dedication to maintaining this progress.

His vision centers around providing an optimal educational environment for every student: “We will have to focus 100% on our students… ensuring that all students receive a high-quality education,” he remarked.

The board expressed confidence in Dr. Pearce’s ability to lead effectively across various domains within the district such as safety initiatives and policy development. “Dr. Pearce is knowledgeable in all aspects of our school district,” said Chair Andrews.

The Board looks forward to working alongside Dr. Pearce as he steps into this leadership role at Johnston County Public Schools.
