COUNTY OF JOHNSTON: County Board of Commissioners Considering the Following Upcoming Appointments

County of Johnston issued the following announcement on Sept. 5.

The Johnston County Board of Commissioners will be considering the following upcoming appointments. Please note the deadline to apply is September 20, 2022.  Applicants must be a resident of Johnston County.

 Fire Protection District Commissions – Two year terms; One position representing each of the following Fire Districts: Blackman’s Crossroads, Boon Hill, Micro, Newton Grove, and Oakland; Two positions representing each of the following Fire Districts: Nahunta and Strickland’s Crossroads; and Three positions representing each of the following Fire Districts: Banner and Corinth-Holders.

 Firefighter’s Relief Fund Board of Trustees – One position representing each of the following Fire Districts for a two year term: Beulah, Blackman’s Crossroads, Boon Hill, Brogden, Corinth-Holder, Elevation, 50-210, McLemore, Micro, PI-LE, Wilson’s Mills and Wynn; and two positions representing each of the following Fire Districts: O’Neals and Strickland’s Crossroads (please note that these positions will be appointed so as to create staggered terms).

 Child Fatality Prevention Team – Four positions; Three year terms (One position representing an emergency medical services provider or firefighter; one position representing a parent of a child that died before reaching their 18th birthday; and two positions representing a County agency or the community at-large.)

 Heritage Commission – Nine positions; Two year terms

 Moccasin Creek Service District Board – Three positions; Two year terms (Applicants must reside or own real property in the District and be a resident of Johnston County.  Two positions represent the Rural Area of the District and one position represents the Town of Selma.  Selma applicants will be forwarded to the Selma Town Council for a recommendation.)

 Nursing Home/Adult Care Home Community Advisory Board – 13 positions; One year term for new appointees or three year term for reappointed members.  “No person or immediate family member of a person with a financial interest in a home served by a committee, or an employee or governing board member of a home served by a committee, or immediate family member of a patient in a home served by a committee may be a member of a committee.”

 Planning Board – One position to fill an unexpired term ending February 28, 2025.

 Tourism Authority – One position; Three year term. (Applicants must be an owner or operator of a hotel, motel, or other taxable tourist accommodation.)

Johnston County Citizens wishing to be considered may submit a short application form to the Clerk to the Board, P.O. Box 1049, Smithfield, N.C. 27577 by September 20, 2022.  Short application forms are available in the Clerk to the Board’s Office, Johnston County Courthouse 207 E.
