TOWN OF BENSON: Scam Warning From Duke Energy

TOWN OF BENSON: Scam Warning From Duke Energy
0Comments

Town of Benson issued the following announcement on June 20.

We continue to receive questions from concerned customers about phone calls from “Duke Energy” asking for an immediate payment with the threat of having their power disconnected. This is a scam.

As always, if you are concerned about the status of your account, please contact Benson Town Hall at (919) 894-3553 and speak with a member of our Utilities staff.

Here is what Duke Energy has on its website about the matter:

“Duke Energy customers have recently been victimized by phone scams. Callers claiming to be from Duke Energy are threatening to turn off electricity or natural gas service if they are not paid immediately.

Scammers may even manipulate caller ID to look like they are calling from Duke Energy. If you feel like there is any possibility that you are dealing with an impersonator, hang up immediately.”
