Town of Smithfield issued the following announcement on Nov. 20.

We welcome in the Holiday season with our Christmas Tree Lighting in Downtown Smithfield on December 1st at 6:00 p.m. We’ll transform Third Street (from the Howell Theatre to Jewel’s Formals) into “Candy Cane Lane.” Festivities include sweet treats, food trucks, music, games, face painting, and more.

At 7pm, we’ll light the town’s Christmas Tree, and a special guest from the North Pole will join us. It’s the kickoff of Christmas in Smithfield, and it’s a fun family event you don’t want to miss!
