Princeton Elementary issued the following announcement on Oct. 30.
At a Special Session meeting this afternoon, the Johnston County Board of Education approved the following calendar changes: adding two wellness days and an optional teacher work day to the district’s November calendar.
The Board of Education voted to change November 12 from an Instructional Day to a Wellness Day for all school-based JCPS students and staff. Therefore, schools will be closed on this day. Twelve month employees will have the option to take Annual Leave on November 12.
The Board also voted to change Monday, November 22 to an Optional Teacher Work Day, and Tuesday, November 23 to a Wellness Day. Both of these days were formerly Instructional Days. As a result of this change, schools will be closed for students on Monday, November 22 and closed for students and staff on Tuesday, November 23. Twelve month employees will have the option to take Annual Leave on these days.
As a result of these calendar changes in the month of November, June 9 and 10 will now be Optional Teacher Work Days on the traditional calendar to fulfill the 215 day work requirement for teachers. Teachers at JC Early College and JCCTLA will have Optional Teacher Work Days added on May 25 and 26.
The Board of Education considered these changes to the calendar as a way to address the hard work put in by staff and students alike, since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. JCPS students and staff should use these Wellness Days as a way to rest and recharge, as we close out the first semester.
