Town of Clayton issued the following announcement on Jan. 27.
Beginning Tuesday, Feb. 8, the Hocutt-Ellington Memorial Library will no longer charge an out-of-town usage fee for persons residing in Johnston County.
In May of 2015, the Town of Clayton’s Hocutt-Ellington Memorial Library became an independent municipal library. To offset the costs of library maintenance, the Town began charging patrons not living in the corporate limits of Clayton $25 for an annual membership to the library.
Unfortunately, this fee has been a barrier of access to many people. In an effort to restore free library access to the Clayton area, we are excited to remove the out-of-town fee for all patrons living in Johnston County. We hope to welcome past library users as well as newcomers to our library. Our goal is equitable library service for all citizens of the Clayton area.
The Hocutt-Ellington Memorial Library is located at 100 S. Church St. in Clayton. For more information visit claytonlibrarync.org.
