Town of Smithfield issued the following announcement on Dec. 26.

With Chief Keith Powell's retirement, the Town has begun a nationwide search for Smithfield's next Chief of Police. As we begin that process, we want to hear from you, the citizens.

The Town will hold a Community Forum on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Smithfield Town Hall. At that time, we want to hear your ideas and allow you to express to the Town Council and Town Manager the traits you would like to see in our future Chief. 

Please join us and be a part of the selection process for our next Chief of Police.
