Senator Thom Tillis has continued to advocate for heightened security on the southern border. His stance stems from his belief that the Biden Administration has irresponsibly allowed the southern border to become overrun. This issue concerns not just the state of North Carolina which he represents, but also directly impacts national security and immigration policy.

Thom Tillis, in his capacity as a Senator, has positioned himself at the forefront of calls for stronger borders and a merit-based immigration system. Based on information from Tillis Senate Gov, he is actively striving to break through persistent inaction and deadlock within both Republican and Democrat camps concerning this critical matter.

To address escalating issues at the border, Tillis introduced what is called the Solving Border Crisis Act. According to Tillis Senate Gov, this proposed bill covers a variety of key measures aimed at managing the situation holistically. The act pushes for immediate resumption of construction of the border wall and advocates for making Remain in Mexico program a permanent fixture. It notably objects to a rule implemented by Biden's administration that permits asylum officers instead of immigration judges to handle asylum claims.

As stated by Tillis Senate Gov, the legislation proposes Congress urge the President to declare a national security emergency at the southern border. To enhance immigration enforcement along with bolstering numbers of border patrol and field operation agents, it recommends establishing minimum staffing levels. In line with this initiative, adequate funding is emphasized so that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) can maintain sufficient detention facilities to fulfill operational demands.
