Johnston County Public Schools continues to emphasize character education across its institutions. Each month, the district acknowledges students who exhibit exemplary character traits. The following students have been recognized for March 2025:
Westin Dorner, a fifth-grader at Powhatan Elementary, is honored for "Respect - Understanding that all people have value as human beings." His actions reflect kindness and compassion, particularly in supporting a peer from another classroom.
Greyson Hey, a fifth-grade student at Riverwood Elementary, is acknowledged for "Dependability - Keeping your promises." He is known for his reliability and ability to help maintain order among his peers and teachers.
Danna Soto from Selma Middle School, an eighth-grader, receives recognition for "Integrity - Being honest in all things." She encourages her peers through acts of kindness and contributes actively to the yearbook staff.
Josiah Watson of West Smithfield Elementary's fifth grade is celebrated for "Perseverance - Working hard and not giving up." He consistently demonstrates determination and a positive attitude towards his goals.
Brian Atilano-Sandoval from Selma Elementary, also in the fifth grade, earns acknowledgment for "Courage - Doing the right thing even when others do not." His courage is evident in standing up for what he believes is right.
Lastly, Yandell Herrera-Roman from Riverwood Middle School's eighth grade is recognized for "Perseverance - Working hard and not giving up." He leads by example and participates actively in school activities like the Assistant Principal Interview Panel.
These students embody various character traits promoted by Johnston County Public Schools.
