The Johnson County Republican Party posted a message from North Carolina Republican Party Chair Michael Whatley on its Facebook page Jan. 20.

In his message, Whatley urged voters to choose a Republican candidate for governor to expand the party’s legislative majorities, to avoid facing the same issues he sees in the state now.

“As the Virginia Legislature and governor enact a wide range of anti-gun measures that will significantly infringe upon Virginia citizens’ Second Amendment rights, I would remind every North Carolina Republican and gun owner that these actions are the consequences of the 2017 and 2019 Election Cycles which put Governor Northam and Democratic majorities in the VA House and VA Senate in power," he said.

Whatley was elected party chair on June 8, 2019, at the North Carolina Republican Party Convention to serve a two-year term. He is an energy consultant in Gaston County.
