With Gov. Roy Cooper's executive order that suspended utility service disconnections expired, North Carolina residents who can't pay their bill might have their services disconnected until payments are made.
However, understanding the financial strain many are experiencing, the Johnston County Public Utilities is offering residents a payment plan.
Any balances accrued since March 31 are eligible for the company's payment plan, Johnston County said in an Aug. 6 release.
Residents can sign up for the plan to pay off April through July bills during a six-month span, the release said. However, any balances the residents had due before April 1 will have to be paid in full before the resident can sign up for the program. Debt forgiveness or reduction in the amount owed cannot be offered, according to North Carolina law.
Any payments made online will have a waived transaction fee and payments can still be made with the dropbox location at 309 E. Market St. in Smithfield, the release said. Payments can also be made through the automated phone system by calling 844-845-2151.
More information on payment plans can be accessed online. Residents can also call Johnston County Public Utilities with any questions or to enroll in a payment plan at 919-989-5075 or email the company at publicutilities@johnstonnc.com.
