County of Johnston issued the following announcement on Feb. 9.
The Johnston County Register of Deeds Office continued it’s mission of preserving Johnston County's history and vital records earlier this morning. Craig Olive and his staff completed a project to restore thousands of original birth certificates from 1930-1953.
During the preservation process records were professionally de-acidified, surface cleaned, repaired and mended. Adhesives and laminate components were also removed from some of the files and stains were reduced in an effort to maintain the records for many more years to come.
Kofile Technologies performed the restoration at their conservation lab in Greensboro, NC. The restoration program is funded through the Register of Deeds Automation and Preservation Fund.
"Some of these older birth records were brittle from being handled so much over the years. Preserving these documents is very important to me. As custodian of these records, we are pleased to safeguard this history for generations to come," said Registrar Olive.
