Town of Benson issued the following announcement on Apr. 28.
The Benson Police Department will host a blood drive on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at Town Hall (303 E. Church Street) from 2pm to 7pm.
This initiative — in partnership with The Blood Connection community blood center — will take place during National Police Week. The timing isn’t a coincidence said Benson Police Chief Greg Percy.
“We thought this would be the perfect thing to host during Police Week,” he explained.
“Our main focus as officers is keeping our community safe and secure, but this is a great way to show we want to keep them healthy as well. Blood is always needed and anyone that participates will be doing a great service for their community,” added Chief Percy.
According to The Blood Connection, anyone, regardless of age, can donate if they pass the blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, and iron test. In addition, if someone takes high blood pressure medication they can still be eligible to donate as long as they feel healthy — the same applies to someone with high blood sugar.
The location for the drive will be the Benson Conference Center parking lot at Town Hall, the Blood Connection bus will be stationed there throughout the afternoon to receive donor appointments.
To sign up, scan the QR code on the flyer with your smart phone and use SPONSOR CODE 8086, or visit: https://donate.thebloodconnection.org/donor/schedules/drive_schedule/190060
All donors will receive an exclusive Law Enforcement Week t-shirt and a $10 charitable donation will be made to the Benson Area Ministerial Association (BAMA) for every blood donor.
