FOIA Request to Johnston County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the Johnston Reporter have sent a request under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1., for information about the candidates running in the upcoming election.
Our request specifically asked for a list of all candidates, including their first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; the jurisdiction of that office; and their party affiliation. We also requested contact information for each candidate such as their address, phone number, and email address.
Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
