Johnston County Public Schools (JCPS) will be opening two new schools, Swift Creek Elementary and Wilson’s Mills High, and constructing three additions to existing schools: Benson Elementary, Cooper Academy, and Cleveland High. These projects aim to relieve overcrowding in densely populated areas of the county.

As a result of these developments, JCPS will need to update existing boundary lines in the affected areas. The proposed JCPS Assignment plan will consider boundary adjustments designed to better balance school crowding across the district.

On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, during its regularly scheduled meeting, the Johnston County Board of Education received the proposed JCPS Assignment plan and reviewed six draft maps—two for each grade level.

The Johnston County Board of Education stated its commitment to providing thorough and timely information to the citizens of Johnston County. To this end, the Board is sharing pertinent information and seeking community input.

Community members can find more information on the plan, including the six draft maps, frequently asked questions, additional resources, and an opportunity to complete the 2024 Student Assignment Community Input Form by visiting the JCPS assignment page online at https://www.johnston.k12.nc.us/page/jcpsassignmentmaps
