North Carolina families will continue receiving benefits through the Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) program with the help of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), according to the Johnston County Report.
The program allows participants to have an EBT card to use for grocery stores and other authorized retailers. The program helps families with the purchase of food, the news media reported.
“Children need access to enough healthy food every day to learn, play and develop to their full potential,” Health and Human Services Secretary K. Mandy Cohen said, the news media reported on Sept. 27. “This program will provide extra help buying groceries for children who would normally have access to free and reduced lunch at school but are now doing remote learning at home.”
Families that are eligible are those whose children received free or reduced-price meals during the school year and their district is utilizing remote learning.
