Johnston County recognizes students for outstanding character traits in December

Johnston County Public Schools places a strong emphasis on character education, recognizing students each month who demonstrate exemplary character traits. For December 2024, several students have been acknowledged by the Johnston County Board of Education for their outstanding qualities.

Dimitri Carpenter, a fifth-grade student at Pine Level Elementary, is recognized for his courage. Despite facing numerous physical and mental challenges at a young age, Carpenter has adjusted well to his new school environment. He is known for his positive energy and ability to make friends quickly, often bringing joy to his peers with his humor.

Ana Almaguel Pupo, an eighth-grader at Clayton Middle School, is celebrated for her perseverance. Originally from Cuba and having lived in the United States for only a year and a half, Almaguel Pupo has excelled academically and is noted for her willingness to assist other newcomers. Her exceptional growth in standardized test scores highlights her dedication.

Sydney Daughtry from North Johnston High School is honored for her self-discipline. An athlete and scholar in the 11th grade, Daughtry was recently awarded WRAL's Extra Effort Award. She consistently demonstrates integrity and teamwork both academically and athletically.

Francisco Garcia Ortega, another fifth-grade student from Glendale-Kenly Elementary, exemplifies responsibility. Known for taking initiative in his learning and managing his time effectively, Garcia Ortega shows maturity beyond his years by seeking help when needed and treating others with respect.

Grayden Whitley Foster from North Johnston Middle School also embodies responsibility. As an eighth-grader involved in multiple extracurricular activities while maintaining high academic standards, Foster serves as the National Junior Honor Society President and captains the MathCounts team.

These students are role models within their schools and communities, showcasing the values that Johnston County Public Schools strive to instill through their character education program.
