On March 1, 2025, Johnston County Public Schools (JCPS) hosted its annual job fair at Smithfield-Selma High. The event attracted over 200 individuals from areas including Johnston County, South Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia who were interested in joining the JCPS team.
The fair featured administrators from all 48 schools and various central office departments. They engaged with candidates to discuss job opportunities, answer questions, and sign early contracts. The event provided a platform for prospective classified, certified, and administrative staff to learn more about the schools and the district. Among the attendees, 16 signed certified early contracts for the upcoming school year.
"The recent Johnston County Public School Job Fair was a tremendous success, attracting a diverse pool of applicants eager to join the district," stated Shelley Siegert, JCPS Director of Recruitment and Retention.
One of the attendees who signed an early contract was Cara Dietz. She is set to graduate from Campbell University with a bachelor's degree in special education. Her interest in JCPS began when she was introduced to their programs during her freshman year by a JCPS representative. Attending the job fair solidified her decision to join JCPS. "I liked seeing all of the administrators," Dietz said. She expressed excitement about joining the team despite some initial nerves: "I have all the feelings going on right now."
The annual job fair is part of JCPS's ongoing efforts to recruit highly qualified educators to provide quality instruction and services daily. Siegert emphasized that this event not only boosted recruitment but also fostered connections likely to enhance educational outcomes through passionate and qualified staff additions.
