On April 10, 2025, Johnston County Public Schools (JCPS) held its second annual teacher signing day, an event designed to celebrate student teachers who have committed to working with JCPS. This year, 19 educators signed one-year contracts in front of over 60 guests, marking a notable increase from last year's six signees.
Shelley Siegert, Director of Recruitment and Retention, highlighted the importance of the signing day, stating, "By bringing fresh perspectives and innovative teaching methods, these new teachers will play a crucial role in inspiring and shaping the lives of their students."
Superintendent Dr. Eric C. Bracy, Chief of Human Resources Linda Edmundson, First Year Teacher of the Year Donald Faggart, and Assistant Principal of the Year Shannon Pawlak addressed the group, welcoming them to the JCPS community.
The event emphasizes JCPS's strategy to attract enthusiastic educators by offering early contracts to student teachers. Siegert notes, “Early contract signing for student teachers signifies a proactive approach by JCPS... This commitment not only helps the district cultivate a strong teaching workforce, but also fosters a sense of stability and continuity for students.”
Efforts to recruit and retain quality educators have seen JCPS offering competitive starting salaries, acknowledging the importance of educator compensation in attracting skilled teachers.
JCPS continues to focus on providing quality education for its 37,000 students. The recent signings are part of broader recruitment efforts, including events like the annual JCPS Job Fair.
Commenting on the event, Siegert expressed enthusiasm about the new educators joining JCPS, “We are thrilled these teachers have chosen to join our school district next school year!”
