The Johnston County Board of Education convened for its regular session on October 8, 2024. During the meeting, several agenda items were addressed and actions taken.

A significant highlight was the recognition of thirty-four JCPS principals for their schools' academic achievements during the 2023-2024 school year. Each principal received a banner to be displayed in their respective schools. The most improved schools were Benson Elementary, Four Oaks Middle, and Clayton High.

Data from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction showed that JCPS ranked 35th in the state with an Overall Performance Composite score of 56.4%, surpassing the state average of 54.2%.

The board approved minutes from previous sessions held on September 10, 2024, both regular and closed sessions.

Advisory appointments were confirmed for various school councils: Jacquetta Manson and Patti Plisko at Cleveland Elementary; Cristina Galindo and Lucinda Van Hoy at Four Oaks Elementary; Meagan Matthews, Rabina Bissessar, and Jennifer Kinnebrew at Powhatan Elementary; Brandon Holland, Caitlin Hartley, Eddie Oliver, Holly Marin, Kevin Donovan, RJ Smith, and Sarah Willoughby at Princeton Elementary; Paul Boucher, Connie Bryant, Chad Stewart at South Johnston School High; with Ashley Anderson receiving a one-year renewal term.

Administrative reports included approvals for certified personnel changes as well as classified and substitute personnel adjustments. Additionally approved were Level III Volunteers and a second reading of board policy updates.

Items presented by the Chief Academic Officer included calendar selections for upcoming school years (2025-2026 and 2026-2027). The Assistant Superintendent of Administrative and Auxiliary Services proposed several recommendations including football helmet reconditioning services, school resource officer contracts, and transportation services box truck bids which were all approved.
