Mrs. Lorenda Bradshaw, an Exceptional Children (EC) teacher at Dixon Road Elementary, has been honored as the JCPS Certified Employee of the Month for October 2024. She is recognized for her dedication to her students and her team, striving to create a supportive learning environment.

Bradshaw shared insights into her career choice and experiences in a recent Q&A session. Reflecting on why she became a teacher, she said it began with "a dear friend of mine and her daughter," who had several medical diagnoses. Observing the impact of dedicated teachers inspired Bradshaw to join a community that supports understanding and advocacy.

Discussing what teaching has taught her, Bradshaw emphasized collaboration's importance in student success. "Working hand-in-hand with parents" provides valuable insights that help tailor educational approaches to meet individual needs. She appreciates the role of instructional assistants and related service providers like speech therapists in enriching students' learning experiences.

In creating an environment where students feel successful, Bradshaw focuses on maintaining positive energy and addressing sensory needs to engage all learners fully. She plans to build on her strategies by continuing support within the classroom and increasing awareness of neurodiversity.

For Bradshaw, building relationships is central to education. At the beginning of each year, she engages with students and families about their interests and concerns, fostering trust through open dialogue.

Looking ahead, Bradshaw aims to further her education and support other special education teachers by assisting with classroom setup and strategy implementation. Her advice for aspiring educators emphasizes growth alongside students: "Teaching is not about having all the answers from the beginning."
