Johnston County Board discusses future plans and honors educators

The Johnston County Board of Education convened for its regular session on December 10, 2024. The meeting included several agenda items and decisions that will impact the educational landscape in the county.

One of the highlights was the recognition of the 2024-2025 Living Legends. The board honored Mrs. Pearl Blackmon, Mrs. Darla Peedin, Mrs. Darlene Williford, and Mr. James Barbour for their contributions to education in Johnston County Public Schools.

The board also welcomed a new member, Mrs. April Lee, who brings valuable experience to her role.

In January 2025, the JCPS Calendar Committee will begin drafting calendars for the upcoming school years of 2025-2026 and 2026-2027. These drafts will be available for public review once completed.

A feasibility study report was presented regarding the replacement of Clayton High School on its current site.

Several agenda items were approved during the meeting:

- Minutes from sessions held on November 12 and November 18, 2024.

- Advisory appointments for Benson Elementary School and Clayton High School advisory councils.

- Administrative reports including personnel updates and policy readings.

Reports from various departments included updates on calendar adoption, feasibility studies for rebuilding Clayton High School, design-build project delivery methods, and requests related to North Johnston Middle School.
