Johnston County Board approves new student maps; recognizes long-serving member

The Johnston County Board of Education convened for its regular session on November 12, 2024. During the meeting, board member Michael Wooten was acknowledged for his 16 years of service to Johnston County Public Schools (JCPS), marking the end of his term.

A significant outcome from the meeting was the approval of new student assignment maps. The board expressed gratitude to the community for their participation in the selection process.

Several agenda items were approved during this session:

1. Approval of minutes from both the regular and closed sessions held on October 8, 2024.

2. Advisory appointments included Jenna Payton and Tiffany Anderson to Archer Lodge Middle School Advisory Council, Sandra Jones, Elgin Alford, and Molly Herring to Benson Middle School Advisory Council, Kevin Hubbard to Clayton High School Advisory Council, Elizabeth Lynn to Cooper Academy Advisory Council, April Hand to Dixon Road Elementary School Advisory Council, Courtney Barefoot to Meadow School Advisory Council, Blake Jones to Polenta Elementary School Advisory Council, and Eric Cromer along with Angela Robinson to Riverwood Elementary School Advisory Council.

The board also reviewed and approved various administrative reports and recommendations. These included superintendent reports covering certified personnel, classified personnel, substitute personnel, Level III volunteers, EPI cost summary for 2025-2026 alongside a revised fee refund policy. Additionally, approvals were given for a school improvement plan and an arts education diploma endorsement.

Further approvals were made for items presented by different chiefs within JCPS:

- From the Chief Academic Officer: JCPS calendar adoption and data analytics/intervention plan platform.

- From the Chief of Facilities Design and Construction: Revised student districting plan and bathroom/storage facility at Princeton Middle-High School.

- From the Chief of Human Resources: Personnel recommendations.

- From the Chief of Finance: Budget Amendment 2 for fiscal year 2024-25.

- From the Executive Director of School Improvement and Support: Annual reform model report with continued authorization.

- From the Assistant Superintendent of Administrative and Auxiliary Services: Technology updates including Softchoice Microsoft Enrollment for Education Solutions (EES) as well as a review of Policy 4150 regarding school assignment.
