Johnston County Public Schools (JCPS) recognized 54 staff members at its 17th annual Leading with the Heart reception on February 18, 2025. The event celebrates employees who demonstrate leadership and compassion in their roles.
The ceremony is inspired by Mike Krzyzewski’s book, “Leading with the Heart,” and acknowledges individuals nominated by peers for their dedication. Honorees are noted for their positive attitude and impact on others. They are described as reliable, respectful, determined, passionate, and generous.
"Whether you are the custodian, the principal, or the bus driver, the people in this room practice that art every day. You see a need and reach out," said Terri Sessoms during her keynote speech. Sessoms is a retired JCPS teacher and former Johnston County Board of Education member.
Sessoms emphasized both science and art in education: “Education is truly an art and a science... The art of teaching is equally as important as the science."
At the reception, each honoree was greeted by JCPS Superintendent Dr. Eric C. Bracy and Johnston County Board of Education Chair Lyn Andrews. Recipients received commemorative items including framed photos and pins. Their achievements will be further acknowledged with displays in their respective buildings.
The list of award recipients includes individuals from various schools such as Archer Lodge Middle's Tiffany Anderson and Clayton High's Phillip Hall among others.
JCPS extends gratitude to all past recipients and staff who consistently lead with heart daily.
