Frances Velez honored as employee of the month for April 2025

Ms. Frances Velez has been named the Classified Employee of the Month for April 2025. She is involved in the Migrant Recruitment Program, assisting migrant students by tackling obstacles they face and advocating on their behalf.

Ms. Velez dedicates significant effort to her role, often working beyond regular hours to support students and families both inside and outside the classroom. Her commitment aligns with the objectives of JCPS, where she contributes wholeheartedly.

In discussing her recognition, Ms. Velez expressed appreciation and a sense of embarrassment, emphasizing that the program thrives on teamwork. "Everyone who is part of this program does this work to assist students and families. It is always a team effort!" she noted.

She sees her work as an advocate for students as a significant responsibility. Believing in education as a key tool for success, she encourages students to strive for excellence.

To foster these relationships, she stays in regular contact with families, engaging through various methods such as phone calls and home visits. "We also conduct wellness checks before and after a big storm," she added, highlighting the program's comprehensive approach.

Collaboration with the school's administration, staff, and colleagues is crucial to Ms. Velez. She believes that teamwork brings together diverse perspectives and expertise, strengthening the support provided to students.
